Amicus Curiae Competition

The Amicus Curiae Competition is a distinguished academic initiative introduced by the late Mr. Nafeer A. Malik to promote legal knowledge, advocacy, public speaking, analytical reasoning, and professional confidence among law students. Since its commencement in 2023, the competition has provided students with a valuable platform to strengthen their legal understanding and prepare themselves for future legal practice.

Amicus Curiae is a Latin term meaning "friend of the court." In legal practice, it refers to a person, institution, or expert body that assists the court by providing legal reasoning, research-based insights, or informed opinions on important legal matters. The concept represents fairness, intellectual support, and the pursuit of justice.

At the college level, the competition reflects the same spirit by encouraging students to think critically, argue logically, and communicate clearly. Participants are required to present their viewpoints, answer challenging questions, and demonstrate their understanding of law, society, legal philosophy, and contemporary legal systems.

The role of the jury is central to the credibility and standard of the competition. The judges evaluate participants based on legal knowledge, clarity of expression, confidence, analytical ability, argument structure, presentation skills, and professional conduct. Their feedback further helps students improve their advocacy skills and develop a disciplined approach to legal argumentation.

Over the years, the Amicus Curiae Competition has become an important academic tradition of the college. It continues to honor the vision of the late Mr. Nafeer A. Malik by inspiring students to become confident speakers, thoughtful legal minds, and responsible future members of the legal profession.
